CPSU/CSA condemns Govt on FPC |
|
Thursday, 05 August 2010 14:27 |
The CPSU/CSA Council has condemned the decision of the Government and the Nationals Minister Terry Redman to significantly curtail the functions of the Forest Products Commission and to withdraw from the strategic tree planting initiatives that would have provided the WA community and the timber industry with a sustainable timber resource for future generations.
The decision announced by the Minister on Monday 2 August will see up to 75 employees lose their jobs, many of them employed in small communities throughout the southwest region. It also signals the end of Government initiatives to deal with land degradation and salinity issues on farming land throughout the region while simultaneously providing future timber stocks for generations to come.
The decision is short sighted and shows a lack of vision by this Government. |

The Public Sector Reform Bill has now moved from the Lower House and is on the notice paper for the Upper House.
Parliament is currently on their winter break, and will resume on Tuesday August 10. Parliament's notice paper is currently very long, so we're expecting the Bill to be discussed at some point in the August sittings.

Wedesday night, June 23, the Legislative Assembly adopted several amendments to the Public Sector Management Bill.
The amendments provide for:
- Removal of the provision which stops matters that are Public Sector Standards being included in collective agreements and determined by the independent umpire;
- Improvements to the disciplinary provisions by ensuring employees are notified of claims in writing are provided with a reasonable opportunity to respond. Importantly this enables employees to seek assistance and advice from their union;
- Consultation with key stakeholders on the content of the proposed Commissioner’s Instructions prior to publication;

Thank you to the Members who came at short notice to the Public Gallery at Parliament Tuesday night and Wednesday at lunchtime!
Join us in the Public Gallery tonight (June 23) from 7pm onwards to protect your job security.
Today Parliament considered a number of the amendments we seek to the PS Reform Bill, but debate has not finished. Further amendments will be considered tonight after 7pm. There is a good chance this will be the last session of debate on the Bill.
Last night and today there was a lively debate on the PS Reform Bill and amendments before a public gallery packed with public sector workers.
Our presence in the gallery has ensured that MPs are taking a keen interest. It is an historical moment for WA Public Service employees - join us in the Gallery from 12noon.
Please join us in the gallery today - sign up to receive SMS notification when the Bill is up for debate.

Thank you to the Members who came at short notice to the Public Gallery at Parliament Thurs 17 June.
Govt pushed the PS Reform Bill down in the Order of Business so the 2nd reading did not occur on the day, but we are prepared to return when it does! This is often the way things go at Parliament and we thank the attending Members for their patience and ask them (and you!) to please come again!
Please join us in the gallery next time - sign up to receive SMS notification when the Bill is up for debate.

The Public Sector Reform Bill is back on the legislation agenda in Parliament this week. It is number eight of eight items listed, so may not make it up for debate. Stay tuned.
However, we've been busy continuing the campaign with political engagement, working with individual agencies, community engagement, and supporting other related campaigns.
