Western Australia’s backbone: front line and support workers launch public advertising campaign over fair pay
Thursday, 17 March 2011 10:06

Western Australia’s front line and support workers, represented by the Community and Public Sector Union / Civil Service Association of WA, today launched a public advertising campaign as part of their push to see decent wages paid in the sector.

CPSU/CSA Branch Secretary Toni Walkington said the advertising campaign is about supporting the workers who are there for the community of Perth and Western Australia on a daily basis.

“They are at the front line, delivering community services that help make our State so strong,” said Ms Walkington.

“They deserve appropriate recognition for this work from the State Government, which has funded larger increases for other workers in the public sector.

These are the workers who:

  • keep our kids safe
  • support our emergency service workers
  • advise our farmers
  • keep our courts running
  • protect our waterways
  • plan our new schools and hospitals

“We are seeking a wage claim of 5 per cent per year over two years in recognition of the hard work our Members do, as well as to keep up with rising cost of living pressures.

“We are calling on Government to properly recognise the value of public sector workers, the backbone of service delivery to the WA community,” said Ms Walkington.

The General Agreement will cover 35,000 employees in at least 630 different occupations.
