Korean union leaders Han Sang-gyun and Lee Young-joo were instrumental in fighting the anti-worker reforms of the defeated Park Geun-hye government. They were recently arrested and incarcerated and despite the recommendations of the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, have not been granted freedom by the new Korean President, Moon Jae-in.
International union alliances are now calling for international pressure on the Korean government to demand the release of Han Sang-gyun and the withdrawal of charges against Lee Young-joo.
