DAFWA update July 2014
We want to know what is happening in your work area.
We have noticed that you do not have a workplace delegate for your area. Nominating a delegate for your work area will ensure that your work area has a voice at EDCs, union meetings and in meetings with management. We’d love to know what is going on in your team and what issues are affecting you right from the horses mouth!
Nominating a delegate is simple. Maybe you could all get together at lunch, have a chat about who you would like to represent you and then fill out the form at: cpsucsa.org/delnom
Your nominated delegate will then get access to:
- free training and support,
- time off to deal with union matters,
- updates on changes in legislation and new CPSU/CSA campaigns,
- resources to recruit new members and run awareness campaigns around workplace issues, resources to support other members in dealing with problems or inequalities in the workplace.
After their free training your delegate will be all skilled-up and to represent you, and your team will have a their very own representative!
Want to share the load?
If you have two or more great leaders in your group consider nominating deputy delegates to support your nominated delegate. They will have access to the same great training program and you will have twice as many reps to chat to and represent you.
Nominate a delegate now!

The Strategic Relocation
DAFWA has confirmed their intent to go ahead with the strategic relocation of 73 positions currently based in South Perth to be transferred to regional locations across the state.
Over the past few weeks your Organiser, with the support of Delegates from South Perth, have been representing members with positions in Grains and Livestock - Pastures identified for relocation to Northam and Geraldton.
It is the intent of your Union to contact all occupants of the positions to ensure discussions with DAFWA are representative of the majority of the group, and that we supply support where needed.
If your position is impacted by strategic relocation and you have not already made contact with us please email your Organiser Margaret Parr at: [email protected]
DAFWA Diagnostics and Laboratory Services (DDLS)
We have been made aware that DAFWA were reviewing the laboratory operations at South Perth to provide integrated laboratory services as part of facilities planned for the new headquarters. The review has been completed and the new model for DDLS received Executive approval for a phased approach commencing this month. We will be seeking further information from DAFWA regarding the implementation at the next JCC meeting scheduled for 5th August 2014.
Members are encouraged to participate in the improvement actions selected for their organisational level in this first phase to assist DAFWA in attempting to address some of the issues identified in the employee engagement survey. Your union will continue to monitor the progress in the coming months with DAFWA already confirming that a pulse check will be run in early November.
Christmas and New Year Closedown
Following consultation with your union, DAFWA has confirmed the Christmas closure period will commence Wednesday, 24th December 2014 until Friday, 2nd January 2015. Members can access flexitime, banked leave, rostered days off, time in lieu, annual leave or accrued long service leave to cover this period. Those members who do not currently participate in existing flexi-leave arrangements may accrue banked hours throughout the calendar year, for the purpose of the closedown period. Please refer to Clause 34 of the Public Service and Government Officers General Agreement 2011 for full information.
