What are the Paradise Papers?
Last year, around this time, we chronicled the release of The Nauru Files; 2,000 leaked documents, detailing the atrocities of systemic abuse and assault in Australia's immigration detention system. Then came the Panama Papers. This year, right on cue, it's the Paradise Papers. The 13.4m files represent the second largest data leak to hit the global community and involve everyone from rockstars, to the Queen and Facebook.
The Paradise Papers were leaked by German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung, the same paper that received and released the Panama Papers last year. There are now more than 96 media partners across the globe working to analyse the resulting material. Key revelations have involved the Royal Family; members of Donald Trump's cabinet and Vladamir Putin's son-in-law; Twitter and Facebook; Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau; Oxford and Cambridge universities; Apple, Nike, the BBC and so many more. There is a lot to cover. So we've grabbed some of the most thorough articles and included them for you below so you can find out what all the fuss is about.
