Moora Saved!

Thanks to the hard work of campaigners and the community, Moora Residential College has been saved.

Multiple actions and tireless campaigning from local school groups, the Moora community and the Country Women’s Association, achieved this great result for the families that rely on this important service.

This week, the federal government announced it has allocated $8.7million for major refurbishment works, with the McGowan state government committing to recurrent costs to keep the doors open.

"We were always very clear during the course of this debate that the capital works were the issue," the Premier to ABC.

President of the Central Midlands Senior Highschool P&C, Tracey Errington, told the ABC, the Principal made the announcement over the PA.

"There was a lot of crying, a lot of happy crying, and a lot of hugging.” Ms Errington said.

"And just the relief, absolute relief, for those kids that now they don't have to worry about anything except for continuing their studies this year.

"You know it's been a long, hard nine months … there'll be a lot of celebrating in Moora tonight."

CPSU/CSA Assistant Secretary Rikki Hendon said this was a great outcome for all involved.

“The fight to save Moora has been long, but the hard work has paid off and this is a fantastic result for all involved.

“Public services like these are critical for every community and we welcome the government’s decision to keep Moora’s doors open.”
