Firm told to stop vehicle checks
A northern suburbs car repair business has been ordered to stop doing vehicle assessments for the Department of Transport, amid concerns that unroadworthy vehicles were being approved.
In an email sent to some staff this month, the department said the order was made because of a "contractual matter" between the business and the department.
The Weekend West understands the "contractual matter" relates to defect notices (yellow stickers) being removed from vehicles without work being done to the cars.
Community and Public Sector Union/Civil Service Association branch secretary Toni Walkington said all licensing inspections in the metropolitan area should be handled by departmental staff rather than private operators.
