GovNext briefing Callout

The CPSU/CSA will be collating member questions and concerns regarding GovNext ICT, and the transitions it will bring for various agencies. If you work closely with state government ICT, the Union needs your input in this project.

GovNext ICT aims to reduce ICT infrastructure duplication and harness whole-of-government buying power. The CPSU/CSA is aware that members have noted unintended consequences as part of the transition and is interested in hearing widely from members and delegates on any other concerns arising from the whole-of-government rollout.

GovNext-ICT is being introduced across nine key public sector agencies, but CPSU/CSA staff have become aware of concerns arising from agencies outside the nine lead agencies. The union is organising meetings with the Minister for Innovation and ICT, but we would like to collate concerns before a briefing is arranged.

Some concerns have included:

• Job security – Questions around cloud computing, automation and centralisation of data leading to redundancies.
• Data cyber-security concerns (individuals data being compromised).
• Quality & currency of infrastructure/service – concerns that the concept of centralised data is already becoming outdated as the rest of the world (both private and public sector) are moving towards more decentralised data and encryption. 
• Proposed efficiencies/savings of GovNext ICT not being realised due to issues in tendering and contract implementation.
• Reporting on GovNext ICT central coordination & oversight.
• Impact of Langoulant Report recommendations on the GovNext project.
