Member Feedback Sought on Affordable Housing Plan
Department of Housing has released its Affordable Housing Action Plan 2017-2018 to 2019-2020
This Plan aims towards the State’s 2020 target of over 35,000 homes for Western Australians on low to moderate incomes.
The plan follows the government’s overarching strategy of connecting houses to support services and transit-aligned precincts.
The Plan notes that the problem is now structural and an increase in supply will not create homes that Western Australians on lower incomes can afford.
With a high level of public sector debt, the Plan notes that the Department will need to:
“Broaden sources of capital to augment government investment.”
This broadening of capital includes access to private capital, including but not limited to social impact capital arrangements.
The CPSU/CSA has a long history of defending against any new pushes towards privatisation.
We’re keen to ensure any new strategies ensure public sector workers can achieve great outcomes without service delivery being compromised by private interests.
The Union is encouraging any members within Department of Communities (Housing) with any questions or concerns around new private financing models to contact their union.
