More Permanency for School Psychology Services

When the conversion to permanency initiative was announced by her agency, Kirsten jumped at the chance, believing she met all the criteria.

Kirsten is the Administrative Assistant for the School Psychology Services in the north metro region and had been on rolling contracts since 2014.

Unfortunately after putting her application forward, she initially received notification that her application had been denied.

Kirsten was told that while she met the criteria in Clause 2.1 for consideration of conversion to permanency, there was no ongoing position available because of the closure of Tuart College.

But when Tuart College closed in December 2018, the School Psychology Services employees were transferred to the North Metropolitan Regional Office.

So, in fact, only her work address had changed; there was an ongoing Administrative Assistant role, now located in the Regional Office, that was the same role she had been in since 2014.

Kirsten contacted UnionLink for assistance in appealing the decision.

As a result, her outcome was revisited and she was appointed to her position permanently.

Kirsten said after nearly five years in the role she was very thankful for the Union’s assistance.

“I’m very happy and relieved to acquire permanency.”

It’s nice to know all my hard work over the years has paid off and I have the same security as others,” she said.
