New permanent positions for DFES to combat catastrophic bushfires
The CPSU/CSA welcomes today’s announcement from the McGowan Government on the addition of$1.1 million in funding to provide permanent employment for eight DFES Bushfire Risk Management Planning officers.
The new public sector positions come from a $7.3 million boost to combat the threat of catastrophic bushfires.
The DFES Risk Management Planning Officers will help local governments throughout Western Australia identify their bushfire risks through the development of Bushfire Risk Management Plans.
Rikki Hendon CPSU/CSA Assistant Secretary says these new positions will help save lives.
“Fire mitigation is a critical public service that saves properties and lives.
“We welcome this investment in preventative measures to treat bushfire risks on unallocated Crown land,” she said.
This coming bushfire season will be the first time DFES will act as the peak agency responsible for bushfire prevention, preparedness, response and recovery functions.
