Over $41million for VTSS in Communities

Startling new costings have come out around the redundancy payouts of former public sector workers.

As of July 1, 2311 separations had cost the state government $279 million.

The Health portfolio had the highest, with $42million going out to 301 staff.

But, it’s the second highest figures, at Communities, that has CPSU/CSA members most concerned.

Over $41million, or the equivalent of over 280 jobs, has been handed over for VTSS redundancies.

Rikki Hendon, Acting Branch Secretary said the Union warned the McGowan Government that workers at Communities would struggle to pick-up the excess workload.

“The second highest amount of jobs were cut from an agency that consistently struggles with workload.

“Staff at Communities simply won’t be able to take on the work of their former colleagues and critical public services will suffer, placing vulnerable children and families at risk.

“Both this round of voluntary severances, and those undertaken by the former Liberal Government have resulted in rushed, irresponsible job cuts from the sector.

“It is inevitable that making thousands of public sector positions redundant will not only be costly in the short term, but also impact the capacity of those who remain to deliver the support and services Western Australians expect and rely on from their government,” she said.
