Prison Staff Walk off the Job Again
Staff working at the Wandoo Reintegration Facility in Murdoch will hold another four-hour stop week meeting on Wednesday as part of an ongoing dispute with employer Serco.
The private prison operator wants to pay staff less than what they pay their staff at Acacia Prison who carry out the same duties and assume the same risk.
Staff are angry at the discrepancy in pay and conditions and as a result walked out the prison gate at 10am and will not return to work until 2pm.
Community and Public Sector Union/Civil Service Association branch assistant secretary Rikki said members working at Wandoo have repeatedly called on Serco to improve their offer and close the pay gap.
“Negotiations with Serco stalled in October and since then our members have stood firm and have not been discouraged, believing they are being treated unfairly by Serco’s tactics.”
