State Government must fully invest in WA Jobs Act
CPSU/CSA members have cautiously welcomed the state government’s new WA Jobs Act.
The new act means state government suppliers will need to prove they are supporting local jobs, with “participation plans”.
With over $27 billion a year spent on goods, services and works for the community, these participation plans could see hundreds of new jobs for the WA economy.
CPSU/CSA Assistant Secretary Rikki Hendon says if the participation plans work, we will see the impact in the coming months.
“The act itself is a very positive step forward to WA Jobs, but the implementation and monitoring is where we will see issues arise.
“Regulating the participation plans of thousands of private enterprises will stretch an already depleted agency, to the limit.
“The state government needs to fully invest in this policy, including properly supporting and resourcing the public sector staff who will be enforcing it,” she said.
