Thanking Toni Walkington for her momentous contribution
STATEMENT FROM RIKKI HENDON, CPSU/CSA ACTING BRANCH SECRETARY:
The CPSU/CSA congratulates Toni Walkington on her appointment to the Western Australian Industrial Relations Commission.
During her 30 years with the CPSU/CSA, over 20 of which have been in positions of leadership, Toni has made a momentous and enduring contribution to the lives of WA public sector workers.
Toni’s achievements during her leadership of our Union include, but are not limited to:
- Becoming both its first female and longest serving Secretary;
- Restoring consistent and equitable pay and conditions across the public sector through the establishment of a centralised General Agreement;
- Modernising the Union by shifting its focus to developing the capacity of, and vesting greater decision-making power in, union members.
We have come to know Toni as a tenacious problem solver and a fair, considered and rigorous decision maker. This, together with her extensive knowledge of our state industrial relations system, will be an incredible asset to all who appear before her seeking justice.
The legacy of Toni’s Union career is a fairer, more equitable public sector and stronger and more democratic Union.
We welcome the new challenges ahead and have full confidence that the CPSU/CSA built under Toni’s leadership will continue to do great things for WA’s public sector, those who rely on it and the people who work within it.
We thank Toni for her years of dedicated hard work and service to CPSU/CSA members and wish her the best of luck in her new position
