Wandoo Prison 4 Hour Stop Work Meeting
Staff at the Wandoo Reintegration Facility will walk off the job for four hours today as a dispute escalates over pay and conditions with prison operator Serco.
Staff represented by the Community and Public Sector Union/Civil Service Association and the WA Prison Officers’ Union will walk out the gate at 8am and not return to noon.
The Wandoo staff are unhappy with the pay and conditions offered by Serco saying it is not acceptable and would make them the lowest paid prison staff in Western Australia.
They are angry at the discrepancy with what Serco is paying them and staff at Acacia Prison who carry out the same duties.
The unions have been calling on Serco to improve its offer and close the pay gap but there have been no negotiations since October 6.
CPSU/CSA branch assistant secretary Rikki Hendon said union members were walking off the job to highlight the need for Serco to return to the negotiation table with an improved offer for custodial and non-custodial staff.
“It it not fair for company to pay staff at two different sites a different pay rate,” Ms Hendon said.
“Our members are not taking this action lightly and believe it is necessary because of the stalled negotiations.”
“We urge Serco to spread some Christmas cheer and come to the table with a fair and reasonable offer”.
