The Department of Finance has confirmed that a contract to outsource audit leave balances for the Office of Shares Services staff has ended. It has come to light that a substantial part of the work was being off-shored.

Up to 30,000 public sector workers are expected to strike in Queensland next month, opposing state government's plans to slash staff numbers. Since taking up office in March Queensland Liberal/National Party Premier Campbell Newman has been on a mission to decimate the public sector, believing it will not affect frontline services.

The Barnett Government is letting down the community by not investing in public services according to the Community and Public Sector Union/Civil Service Association. Branch Secretary Toni Walkington made the comment after Treasurer Christian Porter released the 2012-13 Budget in Parliament House.

Australia’s starts transitioning to a low carbon economy from 1 July this year, when the carbon price comes into effect. Any further changes to workplace laws should improve job security, rights and protections for the millions of people in insecure work, not hand more power to employers. In its submission to the review of the Fair Work Act, the ACTU will propose reforms within the framework of the existing legislation to improve the rights to collective bargaining and the safety net for insecure workers.
