Australia’s Carbon Price

Australia’s starts transitioning to a low carbon economy from 1 July this year, when the carbon price comes into effect. It is expected to increase CPI by 0.6 – 0.7%, and nine out of ten households will receive compensation through tax cuts, increased support payments and cash support for people on low incomes.

The biggest impact will be on electricity prices, which are expected to increase by 10%. The CPSU/CSA’s Living Smart Union program is one practical way the Union is supporting Members in low cost and no cost ways of saving money on the electricity bills.

Check out the next Living Smart Union Courses and a special one-off event presented in partnership with EmpowerWA and UnionsWA, Ready Set Go for a Low Carbon Future.

The EmpowerWA project is a collection of local community sector groups that believe we can create jobs and fight climate change (as well as reduce our bills) through positive policies and initiatives. Check out the great things that are happening here in WA about renewable energy, community and personal actions at www.empowerwa.org.au or check out Empowerwa on Facebook.
