Media Statement: You Lost Us At Machete

Premier McGowan's Response to 'Machete' Cuts

CPSU/CSA STATEMENT

With just 19 days to go till the expiry of the Agreement covering thousands of general public sector workers, CPSU/CSA members are gathering to ramp up the Union’s campaign across seven major sites in WA.

The meetings are part of the Union’s bargaining process with the state government.

Secretary Toni Walkington:

“We are in bargaining, and our most important priority is to listen to what members really want.

“Since this government was elected they have announced significant change, and broken their election promise of a 1.5% wage increase to announce a $1000 a year capped offer.

“It is critical that members have their say on the impact the $1000 offer will have on them and their families, how important permanency is and the threat of job cuts.

“The general government sector has made significant savings; our members are often doing the job of two or three people and they wanted a fresh approach from this government.

“What we got was a broken election promise on wages and the Premier saying he would take a machete to the public sector.

“The government knows that our members want an end to arbitrary job cuts, job security for people on temporary contracts and the cessation of wasteful privatisation.

“We have 40,000 public sector workers who have suffered eight years under the former government, they’re not going to put up with machete cuts from this one.”
