The Labor Senator has announced she will not be re-contesting her seat at the upcoming election. There were reports earlier that Peris was in talks with the AFL for a top Indigenous job. She was the first Indigenous woman elected to federal parliament.

The former MP stands her best chance ever of returning to Parliament as an independent candidate for the Senate in Queensland.


PERTH DRENCHED AS ANOTHER WINTER STORM HITS

Around 4000 woke in the dark as yet another cold front with heavy rain and strong winds brought down the electricity network in parts of the state.

Around the metropolitan around 1800 homes were without power on Tueseday morning with the most affected suburbs being Rockingham, Bayswater and Innaloo, Western Power spokesman Paul Entwistle said.
