Make Your Voice Heard on 24 May
The campaign for Your Union Agreement has reached a crucial juncture. Despite having initiated bargaining in December last year and there being less than a month until the expiry of your current Agreement, the CPSU/CSA has not yet received an offer from the McGowan Government for Your Union Agreement. The Government has, however, found the time over the past few weeks to make several major announcements impacting public sector workers, including:
- Announced Machinery of Government changes (AKA Department amalgamations);
- The establishment of the Services Priority Review;
- A new wages policy providing for a flat $19.20 per week increase (or $1,000 per year) for public sector employees.
In the lead up to the state election, WA Labor committed to maintaining the previous wages policy of 1.5% increases per annum. This change, which leaves two thirds of CPSU/CSA members with lower pay outcomes compared to the previous policy of 1.5% per annum, is a broken election promise.
They also committed to improving job security in the public sector by conducting a review of contract for service arrangements, putting a stop to privatisation, and establishing criteria for conversion to permanency. Now, the significant changes announced by the Government and comments by the Premier about taking a “machete” to the public service have left people feeling uncertain about the future of their work and the services they deliver. Further, no agreement has been forthcoming from Labor in Government to the security job security improvements sought in the claim for Your Union Agreement.
It is essential that the McGowan Government provides you and your co-workers with an acceptable offer for your job security, pay and conditions. Make your voice heard by attending your local lunchtime members’ meeting and sausage sizzle on Wednesday 24th of May at 12pm.
