CPSU/CSA MEDIA STATEMENT ON BANKSIA HILL DISTURBANCE

Wednesday 10 May 2023

The CPSU/CSA is urgently responding to a serious and ongoing incident at Banksia Hill Detention Centre. The CPSU/CSA is focused on ensuring the welfare of our members at the Centre and has significant concerns at this time.

The CPSU/CSA is working proactively and cooperatively with the Department of Justice to ensure a safe end to this incident. At present, we are encouraged to hear there have not been any injuries to staff or detained young people, and the workplace health and safety of the Centre remain our priority concern.

The CPSU/CSA will consider the need to make further comments once the incident has come to a close and our initial enquires with members and the Department have concluded.
